I posted a few new creations recently of my recent digital and traditional creations. I have explored Daler-Rowney FW and Royal Talens Amsterdam acrylic inks a this past summer.

I find the inks do not flow off the dip pen as smoothly as i remember from my college years. I have tried my old Speedball tips and one by Tachikawa, which I liked best for thinner lines. I was using Speedball black ink then; so maybe, it is the new acrylics that have a different makeup. You are welcome to enlighten me about techniques. I do find i like the acrylic inks when applied with a brush. My favorite properties are the vivid colors and the way a new layer does not re-wet and blend with the previous (dry) layer.

I would love to hear about your experience with acrylic ink. Also, I am looking to learn to use and clean after shellac based inks. I ordered metallic silver and gold Winsor & Newton drawing inks on line in a kit (Shadow could not resist the shiny, pretty advertisement!) not realizing they were not acrylic based. Mostly, I fear ruining my brushes. Does anyone know what brushes are safe to use with 'real' inks? I am anxious to put shiny-ies on my art. :)

Happy creating,

Creating Again

1 min read
H friends,

I wrote a lovely journal entry and clicked submit but I have no idea where it went. This writing is my second attempt.

Recently, I reduced my non-art working hours so there was once again time for creating. Most of those endeavors were more practice that worthy of attention and comment. I will post a few of those for which I would like opinions.

Sunny regards,
Shadow

Hi,

Great job finally ended. Mixed blessing in that I liked the steady paycheck but had no time for art or dA. So, I am here more often now. :) and creating sporadically but do not want to break the budget buying art supplies. Most of my efforts are to experiment with acrylics. Nothing new is finished yet. I have a few ideas but none of them are developed enough to begin to draw or paint.

I was thinking of paintings while working but am our of practice at visualizing the details and techniques to make the idea a finished work.

I trust my creative discipline will regrow.

My partner and I went to the Museum of Modern Art Monday. There is a cool abstract exhibit. Trips to MoMA always inspire me. He is a carpenter and carpentry teacher and was inspired, too.

We saw the 1980 to present gallery. I was not impressed. I see better art here on dA. The work presented in this gallery seemed to me to showcase the outlandish and controversial rather than today's great art. Of course, this is only my opinion. Has anyone else seen this exhibit? What do you think about this section of MoMA?

Gentile breezes,
Shadow

hi,

i have been away for weeks and do not know when i can return regularly.

i have a regular (not art) job. i love it and i need the paycheck.

i miss everyone here and hope to return in time. right now it is all i can do to work full time and still paint.

i am near finished with my latest oil pastel painting. all that needs to be done now is to sit with it and make an adjustment or two. then i'll send a photo of it to washington, dc for copyrighting and post it here.

i miss you all and dA.

hi,

just a quick note to say i may be away if internet and/or electricity goes out this weekend. i'm going out in a few minutes to get the 'disaster supplies' and other errands.

as for my art:  the oil pastel on which i am working continues to progress. the colors are inspired by some sea shells i picked up at rockaway beach, queens last month. Surprisingly, i am content with that pallet. it is subdued compared to my usual color choices.

let me know what you are working on?

gentle breezes to all,
